My current body of work is a mixture of abstract expressionism with graffiti freestyle. I have found the spontaneous effect of spray paint matched with the incredible brush stroke an exciting new approach. I am also experimenting stencils and words. My series is dealing with satire and politics.
As a lifetime painter of over forty years it is abstract for me to give you an artist statement dealing with the present work. Art as a lifestyle is an on going event that leads the painter through many levels of accomplishments. As I have grown, so has the brush in my hand.
For many years I studied the abstract impressionist and their intense brushstroke. I noticed the same stroke in the landscapes of the Impressionist. The zany art produced by the advent of the rock movement. The direct approach of the graffiti artist opened another avenue for me as well as media and advertising.
Currently I am living in Santa Rosa, Ca about one hour North of San Francisco. Working out of "Studio Ism" located in the SOFA arts district, I am showing and experimenting on new ideas and altered states.
Currently working on a series of floral with total disregard for reality. Beautiful colors surrounded by a splatter of paint and a grafitti motif. Some paintings look like landscapes that have turned into words The latest series of illustrations I produced from stolen restaurant napkins are a spectacular use of modern day DaDa.. I am now working with two distinctly different styles of art.
One is to vibrantly express earth images like flowers and landscapes with a certain disregard. The other is called my satire series. These paintings are slightly more realistic and sometimes reflect images that serve to make statements or political messages. Currently I have a studio (studio ISM) where my art can be seen by appointment.
